Heather O'Mara, founder and CEO of HOPE Online Learning Academy Co-Op, is a pioneer in online education.

For two decades, Heather has dedicated herself to founding, leading, and growing HOPE Online Learning Academy Co-Op to provide educational opportunities to underserved populations in Colorado.

In 2005, recognizing the need to expand access to online learning, particularly for disadvantaged students, HOPE was born. HOPE is a multi-district online charter school authorized by the Douglas County School District and certified by the Colorado State Board of Education. HOPE currently has 21 Learning Sites across the state from Greeley to Denver to Pueblo to Grand Junction.

Heather's innovative approach to education blends business and educational practices to develop effective solutions. She actively forges partnerships with industries and organizations to address educational gaps and provide comprehensive support for students. Through HOPE, Heather has created numerous jobs and fostered professional growth, including a teacher licensure program that opens career pathways for employees.

As a passionate advocate for students, families, and employees, Heather consistently prioritizes their needs while identifying opportunities to overcome challenges and improve educational outcomes. Her ability to build strong networks drives meaningful change, and her commitment to high-quality professional development ensures continuous learning and excellence for all staff.

By collaborating with businesses, community leaders, and educators, Heather has demonstrated the vital role of hybrid schools in providing flexible and accessible education for students who thrive in different learning environments.

Heather's contributions have significantly impacted online education in Colorado. For example, her involvement in the development of the Colorado Online Education Act – Senate Bill 07-215 expanded access to online learning for thousands of students across the state.
